25zero is a project that uses dramatic images of melting equatorial glaciers and storytelling about people and places being affected by their decline to ‘show’ climate change, to educate and engage new people in the issue and fund climate change projects doing something about it. The use of melting tropical glaciers and the stories of people affected by them is crucial because ‘seeing is believing’ for many and climate change suffers from the fact that greenhouse gases are invisible. There are 25 mountains at the equator with glaciers. Within quarter of a century this ice will be gone due to climate change. 25 mountains zero latitude, 25 years zero ice.
25zero has 3 main goals:
To raise awareness about climate change by using original stories, and powerful images and footage of melting tropical glaciers and the people being affected by them. The main output is a documentary although other channels include the media, social media, expedition website and longer term via a book;
To generate interesting, curriculum-ready content for kids’ education related to the issue of climate change and longer term via a virtual climb App to get kids actively involve, provide information and act as a fundraising tool
To raise funds and support projects combatting climate change in the countries the 25zero mountains are situated in
